My Struggle To Stick With A Workout Routine

workout routine workout routine workout routine workout routine workout routine workout routine Happy Monday friends! This is a very exciting week because I’m heading to Denver for a little girls trip on Wednesday! Yay! This mama is pumped! Today I’m chatting a bit about my work out routine, or lack thereof…I hope some of you can relate!

I always feel so energized at the beginning of the week, but then find myself struggling by Wednesday #whoopsie where’s the coffee?  Anyone else in the same boat? Last week I was so motivated to stick to a work out routine. My plan was to work out at home Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. I was going to do a 15-20 minute workout video each day and a mile jog/walk.

The goal felt attainable on Monday as I was planning everything out. It was easy to stick to it on the first day, but when Wednesday came around I was all like ehhh…my body still hurts from Monday so I half-assed my way through a 10 minute work out video and skipped the run. Friday came around and I skipped both and decided that walking around a toddler gym was enough of a cardio session (totally lazy!).

Then Saturday I ran a full out olympic speed run on the trail downtown trying to get Noah to stop crying in his stroller. I could barely walk afterwards, and hobbled around most of Sunday in pain (FYI, I have the worst knees… I blame it on growing up a ballerina and jumping around way too much without landing properly).

This little scenario happens to me all of the time, and I end up getting a tad frustrated. I have to stop and remind myself that the reason my work out schedule is so crazy is because my life is so crazy. With my job, no two days are the same. Some days I’m at a coffee shop working, some days I’m out doing photo shoots and running errands, and other days I’m at home spending time with Noah and doing dishes and laundry.

The bottom line is that being healthy is a lifestyle. You don’t have to stick to the same rigid routine every week to be healthy. Do what works for you, and don’t stress out if you can’t stick to a routine. Choose happiness, health, and get active as much as you can when you can.

I can completely relate. Finding motivation isn’t the hard part, it’s finding the discipline and flexibility to keep going.
When I find it I’ll let you know!

I love this post, Lee Anne. Because I’ve been struggling with this myself, and it’s been so hard to stick to a routine with trying to balance grad school, an internship, blogging and a part time job. Ugh. But I’m in that transitional stage and now it will come soon!

I’m going through the same thing. I go full force into working out and then burn out. Love the fashion pics. Look is easy and fun. Thanks

I’m so with you! Getting a routine started is hard and I’m working on it myself because I always feel so much better when I’m working out consistently.

I know what you mean!! It is so hard to keep up with a workout routine when you have so many other things occupying your time! However, those shoes are so cute and would definitely motivate me to work out! Or at least think about working out?

So true! It’s about being active and living a healthy lifestyle- don’t be too hard on yourself if it’s not a strict, rigid routine- boring! And love the outfit!!

This is so me! I get so excited about working out and get everything planned out and then by the end of the week it’s not always going so well!

  15. Amy Scott on September 19, 2016 at 4:41 pm

I feel ya! The lack of a daily routine makes it seem imposible to creat a workout routine and I am the best ever at making excuses to justify why I’ll skip today’s workout!

I love how honest you are and I’m totally the same way!

It’s SO hard! I find it easier for me to start working out and then 3 weeks later I stop for a month or two. I want to be more consistent with working out! Great post! XX, Donna

This is such a great reminder! Sometimes life gets in the way and that’s just part of life. I found Amanda Bisk 20 minute workouts and they are the perfect complement to other workout routines for days you don’t have much time but still want to be active in some way.

Committing to an exercise routine is tough for me. I prefer to exercise in the mornings but my day starts so early. 🙁 Those are great trainers (tennis shoes), I have those.

  27. Christine Anne on September 20, 2016 at 4:42 pm

The whole being sore after a hard workout and then skipping days and days after happens to me all the time. It’s the effort that counts. Not beating yourself into a strict routine. If that was the case no one would work out because it would be more of a chore than a part of self-care.

  28. NYG@NaughtyYogaGirl.com on September 20, 2016 at 6:18 pm

First of all … cuuuute outfit!! Second of all, I totally relate (in fact, probably most people can). My problem is that I’m a perfectionist, so if I set workout goals for myself (or set up a training schedule for running) and I don’t end up following it exactly to the T, I get frustrated with myself and just ditch the whole thing. Still working on dealing with that struggle.

  29. Maggie on September 20, 2016 at 7:22 pm

I’m totally in the same boat – it’s just so hard for me to stick to a routine!!
