Our Tips For Moving With Kids

moving tips with kids Moving with kids has got to be one of the most stressful things. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t a ball of stress during moving day. I think stress is pretty inevitable when you’re moving your entire family & belongings to a new place all in one day, but there are definitely ways to make it less stressful. One would be wine… LOL… unless you’re me and had the movers pack your wine opener… I’ll keep this in mind next time, LOL. Anyways… there are plenty of tips to make moving easier with kiddos (without wine) so I wanted to share some things that helped us!

Dylan and I have moved A LOT over the years we’ve been together. We started to get it down to a science (before kids). Moving with kids was a bit more difficult, but I feel like we found some things that really helped us!

  1. Get The Kids Excited

Our first priority was to make sure the move was easy on the kids. We got Noah excited about it for months. We had the opportunity to visit the house a lot since we bought it quite awhile before we had to move out of our rental home. We were doing home renovation projects so we were able to stop by often, and get Noah excited about the “new” house every time we went. We even started keeping special snacks at the “new” house that he could only have while we were there.

2. Hire Movers

Best. Decision. Ever. We’ve never had movers before, and wow, we were missing out. We used Square Cow Movers. They are an Austin based company, but have offices all around the nation. They even packed for us you guys! It was LIFE CHANGING. The first day they came in and packed everything up. The next day they moved us. It was magical. They even helped us set everything up in the house before they left that night. The worst part about moving is setting up your bed when you’re so tired after a long day. This time all l I had to do was put my sheets on #glorious.  Dylan is so used to just having a couple of friends come and help, but oh man it takes SO much longer, and this process was WAY more relaxing.

3. Set Up The Kids Rooms First

On moving day, make sure to let your movers know that you want the kids rooms set up first. That way you can get them to bed at their bedtime, instead of having them up super late. I also recommend making sure you have some sort of window treatments ready & on the windows. I’ll admit that we still are using a shower curtain & a shower curtain rod in Noah’s room, LOL… So we are a little behind on that. We did get him some blackout panels from Pottery Barn that we will be hanging soon. We also got Emma some blackout panels from Pottery Barn, and they are SO cute. Stay tuned for her full room reveal soon!

4. Don’t Pack The Wine Corkscrew (hehe)

But seriously… it might be a good idea to have one handy 😉 It took me a couple of days to find mine!

Okay, well I could probably go on forever with more tips, but those are the ones that stuck out the most to me. When we move again, I will literally be repeating all of these tips! Do you have a move coming up soon?

A huge thanks to Square Cow Movers for collaborating with us during our move. These people are literally amazing you guys. Check them out & see if they are in your area!
