5 Simple Ways To Show Your Mother In Law You Appreciate Her
Raise your hand if you got super lucky in the mother in law department? My hand is highly raised. I literally have the best mother in law in the world. With Mother’s Day right around the corner, there’s no better time than to chat a bit about how awesome my mother in law is.
Although my mother in law lives in Indiana, she often comes to Austin to help us with Noah. She has stayed with him while we have gone on trips, and has come into town to help out during times when we’ve been really busy. During these times she is the most selfless, sweet, and helpful human on earth. Dylan and I appreciate her so much, and sometimes I feel like I wish I could show her how much we truly do appreciate her.
Whenever she comes into town we like to do simple things to show her how much we appreciate her. I thought I would share them with you, and maybe they would inspire you to show your mother in law how much you appreciate her.
- We like to have the groceries she prefers in the fridge before she arrives. We always go to the store before she gets here to get everything she needs, so she doesn’t have to make a trip out when she gets here.
- We tidy up her room. This involves striping down the bed, washing the sheets, and making the bed. We like to include small little things in her room to make her feel appreciated. The last time she came to visit, my husband, put a couple merci chocolates on her pillow. It was such a cute idea, and she loved it. Plus, merci chocolates are our absolute favorites! We also got some fresh flowers & set them next to her bed.
- We make sure to plan a day off work. Typically when my mother in law comes to town she is helping us with Noah, because we have a lot on our plate. Even though she’s coming to help us, we want to visit with her. Making sure to plan a day away from work that we can spend with her is so important. In fact, I wish we had more days like those when she is here.
- We treat her to a dinner out. Or at least we try, ha, sometimes she insists on paying (because she’s the sweetest!). I love being able to treat her to a dinner out, because she’s treated us so many times in the past.
- Bring her a treat to the airport. If it’s in the morning we will bring her a coffee, or if it’s in the evening and she hasn’t eaten all day we will bring her a snack for the drive home.
Sometimes the most simple gesture can show so much appreciation. I hope that this inspired you to show your mom or mother in law appreciation this Mother’s Day. And Dylan, if you’re reading…. I’ll take some Mother’s Day appreciation myself, lol!
A big thanks to merci chocolates for sponsoring this post. All thoughts & opinions are my own.

My mother in law helps out with our kids almost every day (they live in our street). To show our appreciation, we take them on a vacation each summer. This year we are going on a cruise to the Bahamas!
Aww that is so nice of you, and so awesome to have her help!!
This is so sweet! I don’t know how we could do it without parents and parents-in-law. That is such a good idea to bring a treat to the airport and have the fridge stocked!
