Family Staycation in Downtown Austin

Downtown Austin Family Staycation Happy Tuesday friends! Remember that little family staycation we just took in downtown Austin!? Ahh it was so much fun! I wanted to share more about it in today’s blog post. We stayed at the Wyndham Austin located in downtown Austin. The location is awesome for us, because it’s literally a couple of blocks from the first place we lived when we moved to Austin. It was so much fun to be able to walk to all of our old spots. This time with two kiddos in tow, lol. We lived downtown prior to having kids 🙂

Downtown Austin Family Staycation The room itself was amazing because we had our own kitchen. Emma loves milk, so I was able to buy some and add it to the fridge, and then just heat it up on the stove! We walked to Whole Foods, and stocked the fridge. Having a little kitchen in your room is IDEAL when traveling with kids. It just makes life SO much easier. It’s also so helpful for breakfast in the mornings if you don’t want to go out every morning. Helps to keep costs down too!

On one of the mornings we walked to one of our favorite downtown breakfast spots, Walton’s Fancy & Staple. We used to walk there all of the time. It’s super close to the Wyndham! They have delicious lattes! We also went to the Austin Zoo. It’s about a 25 min drive from the hotel, but it’s a fun spot if you have kids! It’s a rescue zoo, so it’s nothing major like the Chicago zoo, but it’s still fun!

If you’re going without kiddos, or have a sitter one night you will be in prime walking distance to all of the bars and restaurants on West 6th street! Most of the bars and restaurants have changed so much since we lived in the area, but one of our favorite little sushi spots is still there. It’s called Maiko sushi, and they have an awesome happy hour menu.

Downtown Austin Family StaycationIt was so nice to just be with the kids away from home for two nights. It’s always good to get out of your daily routine, even if it’s just for a couple of nights and in your own city. It gave us the chance to reconnect and just hang out as a family without our daily distractions. I highly recommend a little staycation in your own city, or if you’re coming to Austin check out the Wyndham Austin!

Thanks so much for stopping by today friends!

A big thanks to the Wyndham Extra Holidays for sponsoring this post!

XO,

Lee Anne
