Weekend Getaway at Eilan Hotel & Spa
There’s nothing better than a weekend getaway. Can you believe I’ve lived in Austin for over 2 years and I haven’t explored many other Texas cities? I haven’t been to Dallas or Houston yet, but I was able to check San Antonio off of my list over the weekend. We checked in to the Eilan Hotel & Spa in San Antonio around 5 pm on Friday night. The drive from Austin was very quick (about an hour and 20 mins) even though we were driving through a ton of rain due to the hurricane in Mexico.
{ Getting ready for dinner is always more fun with a glass of wine in hand }
{ Oh hey mom, put down your wine and take a picture with me }
On our first night we dined at Sustenio, the restaurant inside of the hotel. This restaurant is lead by celebrity chef Stephan Pyles, and the food was incredible. We started with the snapper ceviche which included picked watermelon rind, chile amarillo puree, and pop rocks. Yup, pop rocks. Oh my gosh it was a culinary treat! And I don’t even consider myself a seafood person. We then followed it up with a watermelon salad that was so delicious and fresh. For the main course I had the filet and Dylan had the brisket. Both were mouth-watering.
I sampled some wine at dinner and ended up falling in love with wines from Bingham, McPherson, and Jolie ( all Texas wines)! I was so pumped to experience delicious Texas wine. When we lived in Portland, OR we would go wine tasting on the regular and I had so many local favorites. Now I’m pumped to have some local favorites here in Texas! We didn’t bring our camera down to dinner because we didn’t want to disrupt the ambience with our tripod and mega flash and the pictures on our camera just didn’t do the food justice. You HAVE to go try it yourself. Seriously go to San Antonio for dinner at Sustenio, no matter where you live. It’s that good.
On Saturday we each had treatments at the spa. This mama was in for a treat. I carry Noah around so much and he is not a small baby…I had a lovely Swedish massage and had some time to just relax and enjoy the spa afterwards. It was SO nice. I almost passed out in the relaxation room afterwards. I could have easily slept there for an hour or so, but I didn’t want to be that awkward person who falls asleep at a spa.
{ Probably the cutest face I’ve ever seen Noah make… just had to include this pic for that purpose }
Saturday night we were invited to attend a special dinner with chef Stephan Pyles at Sustenio. We were told that the dinner would be around a community table so we were a little worried bringing Noah. The dinner was a special tasting where we got to try all of the new menu items for the Fall-Winter 2015 menu. Everything was incredible. Two of my favorites were the Sugar Roasted Pear Salad and the Wood Fire Grilled Filet with Sweet Potatoes.
To our surprise Noah did great and partied down with us until around 9:30. We were super pumped that we could stay for the whole dinner and not have to leave early. Sometimes you just gotta pack a lot of toys and not be afraid to bust out the iPhone with Mickey Mouse Clubhouse if needed.
Sunday morning was all about sleeping in and ordering room service for breakfast. This is always my favorite part about staying at a hotel. There’s nothing better than picking out your breakfast the night before and hanging your tag on the door knowing that you will wake up to the smell of bacon and coffee.
We had such an amazing time that I’m already planning when we can go back. I’m thinking the summer would be great, because the pool is incredible. It would also be the perfect spot for a relaxing girls weekend. Have you ever been to San Antonio? Where did you stay?
Love weekend get always. Pampered!

This looks like a lot of fun! Getaways are a must and you make it look so easy with a baby! He’s adorable by the way!
Awe, thanks Sabrina. He was pretty well behaved I must admit. The only downside was a bit of screaming in the car 😉
I LOVE SA! I live in Corpus Christi, but I’m originally from Dallas. You have so many places to visit here in TX, but SA is a good start! We love staying on the River Walk in the historical hotels, but my favorite area is the new brewery area – the restaurants are to die for. Love your blog btw. 🙂
We didn’t get a chance to visit the Riverwalk because of the rain! It finally cleared up on Sunday, but we had to head back. I’ll put that and the brewery area on my list for next time. Thanks so much!
I love that red hat! So cute!
