Mommy Milestones
I’ll admit it. I was a bit of a crazy person for the first few weeks after Noah was born. In the middle of one of my mombie (mom plus zombie) meltdowns one day I looked at my husband through tears and said ” I didn’t even get to eat my dessert”. Of course he started to chuckle thinking my sleep deprived, desert-craving self was pretty adorable when all I could think about was how badly I wanted to eat that glorious peanut butter/chocolate bar from Whole Foods in peace and then pass out for like 6 days.
I felt like I had no idea what I was doing as a mom and like I was not equipped to take care of a baby. In reality I was just super sleep deprived and needed to stop being so hard on myself.
I also hadn’t reached any of the mommy milestones yet. You know, these ones…
- You start to think 4 hours of sleep a night is a good thing. If those 4 hours were uninterrupted you basically hit the sleeping jackpot
- Going to Target alone feels like a day at the spa
- You find the time to give your baby a bath, but you haven’t showered in at least 2 days
- You consistently think to yourself “Wow, I had so much free time before I had a baby, what did I even do with myself?”
- Your baby spits up or pees on you and you don’t even change your clothes “Relax, it’s just urine” – sorry I just had to quote the movie Orange County 🙂
- You see your husband making a ridiculous face at your baby & you realize you’ve never loved him more.
- Your baby wakes up screaming in the middle of the night while your husband continues to sleep. You realize you’ve never hated him more.
- You let your baby smack you in the face, pull your hair, bite your fingers, etc… because it’s not abuse, it’s cute.
- You turn on Mickey Mouse Clubhouse for an hour, set your baby in front of the tv, and don’t feel bad about it.
- Tell me your mommy milestone… have you related to the last 9?
Oh what I have to look forward to! LOL
I can honestly say that I felt the EXACT same way! Being a new mommy is tough – and let’s face it, I am not a pleasant person when I haven’t had sleep. One of my favorite mommy milestones, is when Noah started sitting up on his own. If he woke up at night, I would walk in and he would immediately reach for me, and nestle in to the nook in my neck. Heart. Melted. Totally made being sleep deprived worth it! 🙂
Awe:) Yes- with my Noah crawling around more it’s so sweet when he makes and effort to come to me 🙂 I’m so unpleasant when I haven’t had sleep. So basically I’ve been unpleasant for the past 8 months…
Raising a tiny human is the hardest job. I can’t even imagine. At least you do it with style.

Awe, thanks January. That’s so sweet.
I’m not a mommy yet, but I think the same thing- I don’t even know how to be a mom! I enjoyed reading this.

I totally relate! Oh the mombie days – I just don’t think anything can adequately prepare you for them. I’ve heard it said being a mom is a sleep-deprivation experiment. Hate to scare you, but a lot of these are things I still think – why change clothes? I’ll be getting some other food object on me later in the day. It’s not THAT bad. 😉 Also the showering thing. Also Target. Such a fun post!
Love the “going to Target…” part!! So true 😉
This is such a cute read! I’m not a mom yet so I can’t say that I’ve experienced any of these firsthand. I guess I shouldn’t take my solo Target trips for granted. :]

Omg exactly how I felt when I had my baby!!
I love this! Being a mommy sounds like a really tough job, but you are doing a great job. I can only imagine how hard, but rewarding it is. I’m really excited to be there myself someday.
Can relate to all of these! Especially the 2 about the husband. ..how can they sleep through everything? !? The worst would be when he would wake up and say he was “tired” even though he hadn’t gotten up with the baby once. Love this post!
hahaha!
YES!!! all of these things! My son is 7 and my daughter is 2 and a half and I still relate to all of this. 🙂
These are hilarious and I can totally relate. What makes me laugh too is how this only works for your own kid. When a friend’s baby pees on me I am not nearly as cool with it, hahaha!
Haha, so true!
