7 Things I Used To Say Before Becoming A Mom
Some funny little things I used to say before becoming a mom. Enjoy.
- “I can’t believe they set their kids in front of an iPad at dinner!” Umm hello Miss Judgement pants. Don’t knock it until you try it. My little guy is only 7 months and has a small obsession with Mickey Mouse Clubhouse already. Whoopsie.
- “That baby has dirt under her fingernails. I bet they don’t give her a bath everyday.” Giving Noah a bath everyday is not something that has ever happened. I mean he can totally go 2 days without a bath. How dirty can a baby get and who has the time to bathe a baby daily? Not me.
- “Why would they ever let their baby cry in it’s crib?” This is a tough one. I tried the cry it out method for a couple of nights and I thought I was going to have a panic attack. I had to pour a glass of wine to even stomach the fact that I was going to let my little guy cry in his crib and not go pick him up. It’s totally against maternal nature, but now i totally get it. You have to train your little ones to fall asleep on their own or they aren’t going to be able to. I’ve had my share of walking Noah around and singing to him for 30- 60 minutes trying to get him to sleep.
- “I’m not having an epidural.” Ha, well with a 9 lb 5 oz baby and being in labor for 17 hours I decided it was okay to get an epidural. Labor is crazy and you have no way to prepare for what’s going to happen. It’s best to go in with an open and positive mind.
- “Staying at home with the baby will be so nice, I’ll never want to work at an office again.” Okay, so part of this is totally true. I’m not the corporate type and will never work for a big corporation, but being at home 24/7 isn’t the easiest thing either. Mom’s don’t just hang out all day doing nothing. I am either working or sleeping every second of the day that I’m not spending with Noah.
- “My baby is always going to be dressed super stylish” This is just too funny. Did I literally think I was going to dress Noah in a baby tuxedo at all times? He hasn’t even graduated from onesies at this point. To me it’s really been mostly about function when it comes to dressing him. There are days when I do dress him up, but for the most part he is in a onesie for quick diaper changes.
- “I will never use a pacifier” I remember feeling stressed out the first time we gave the little guy a pacifier. I was worried he was going to become a paci-addict and not be able to live without it. There was some sort of idea built up in my head that giving your baby a pacifier was a way of shutting them out. In reality it’s just a good tool to have if you’re out at a restaurant or somewhere where the baby isn’t comfortable. It’s been pretty handy to keep him calm when we are in unfamiliar places & he isn’t an addict 😉
Who can relate?
Um yes – so true. What about, “my kid will NOT behave like that” or “I will never feed my kid anything that has fallen on the floor” The things we thought…
Oh yes, good ones!
This is great!! I definitely said so many of these things before having kids of my own! It’s so easy to judge when you have no idea!
Ha, thanks. Yes- it’s crazy how much you judge things that totally make sense now!
SO TRUE!!!! This made me laugh out loud … As a first time mommy I can totally relate to the things we “used to say”! Haha
Haha! Thanks for your comment! I also noticed you signed up to receive my postings weekly via email. I’m still setting this up so they won’t come right away, but I’m working on it. So in the meantime keep checking back here 🙂 Thanks Crystal ! Have a good weekend!
YES!!!! #1, 2, and 5. SO true! Also, “my child will never scream or yell at a restaurant/store/church/social gathering” UMMMMM yeah…. Thanks for the laugh today!
HAHA! Things I said before I came a mom and then during each pregnancy. Hehe. Love this.
Ha, thanks Jamie! 🙂
Im pretty sure EVERY mom EVER can relate. lol. Even if they don’t want to admit it. 😉 There is nothing that can truly prepare you for motherhood, except motherhood itself. 🙂
So true. Thanks for your kind comment Amanda!
Yeah, I did say I wouldn’t use an epidural. That theory didn’t work in practice, at least not for me.
What awesome mom you are, you helping all us feel more human, love you
Yes….crap. lol. Sadly my kid watches maybe too much tv on occasion and the epidural saved my life. Thanks for this!
Of course! We’re all human 🙂
I don’t have any children, but I work with kids and seeing these are so true. I love the stylish one because 99% of the babies I work with are still in onesies… it’s just the practical thing to do. Lol.
This is a great post and all too true! I also said many of these things {plus some} and as it turns out, had no idea what I was talking about. I have also been know to say things like, “well, with the next one I’ll…” and still done it differently. Thanks for sharing!
Haha! I haven’t thought about the next one yet, but I think I know exactly what you’re talking about. We’re all human! Thanks for stopping by the blog 🙂
I think I’ve said most of these. So funny how your views change once you experience having a kid!
Haha, they sure do! Thanks for stopping by!
THANK YOU. thank you. Seriously.
we live and learn don’t we? so so true – all of these!
Totally guilty!!!
LOL!! Oh, SO funny! I think this is a pretty common theme…you should never ever say, “Never!” like….My child will never…..or ‘always’ like my child will always….because you will only wish you hadn’t said it!
Parenthood is not for the weak. Do the best you can, love yourself and the kids and the rest? Only details.
Love the post!!
Natalie
Thanks Natalie!
Cute list. And yes, many of my opinions changed after I had my first daughter! So true. 🙂
This is such a funny and beautiful post♥♥

I said every single one of these things. I, too, was a Miss Judgement Pants.
Haha! Aren’t we all ?
These are awesome! I don’t have kids yet, but I’m already guilty of some of them. We hope to have kids soon in the near future and I know we are already in for a wild ride. I think more than anything, I find myself saying, “my child will never do this or that.” I have no doubts I will change my tune when I have kids. 🙂
Love all of these! I am not a mom yet but I’m sure I will have my fair share of things like this.. and eventually learn, you just do it how you do it!
These are great! I had my daughter very young and wasn’t around a lot of young children before I had her, so I don’t remember making these judgments. I did, however, have a friend full of opinions. Whenever she’d open her mouth to make some horrible comment about parents I would think, “Just you wait…” Until you are a parent you have no idea what you’ll do.
Haha, so true!
Yes, it’s amazing how judgemental we are before kids. I remember a classmate talking about how she couldn’t get her toddler to get in bed. I made the comment, just put her in there and close the door. Now I understand her dirty look. I cringe just thinking about it now. Thanks for sharing this list!
Haha! Thanks for stopping by my blog!
Amen to ALL of these! It’s all just survival mode now!
Haha, yes survival mode for sure!
