Spontaneous Anniversary Celebration
Let’s face it, once you become a parent the word spontaneous kind of disappears from your vocabulary. All of a sudden there are strict nap schedules, feedings, and bed times for the little one. Of course, you can skip schedules all together, but trust me everyone in our house is happier when the little man is on a schedule.
That being said, Dylan and I miss being spontaneous. When we were in college, he would call me at 11 pm, and tell me that he was coming to pick me up to go to the grocery store. Who goes grocery shopping at 11 pm? Well, Dylan does, ha. At first I would hesitate because I was comfortable in bed or right in the middle of studying, but I’m so glad that I let his spontaneous side creep in on me.
Last weekend I could tell Dylan had the spontaneous bug, and I wanted to do something fun to surprise him. We already had dinner reservations for our anniversary Sunday, and I got a great last minute idea Sunday morning. I called my sister and asked if she wouldn’t mind watching Noah for a little longer than she planned on that evening, and then decided to hop online and find a hotel deal for that evening. My sister was totally cool with staying over with Noah at our place all night (she’s basically amazing, if you didn’t know that already). Dylan was out rock climbing so I called him, and told him that I was packing our bags for an evening away. I could sense his spontaneous excitement right away. He rushed home, we booked a priceline deal for a hotel downtown, my sister showed up, and we headed out.
This was our first night away from Noah, and wow it was good for us all. We were literally 10 minutes away, and Noah was with the one person he knows the most besides us, so everything was perfect. We spent the day swimming at our hotel & enjoying the sun. We had an amazing dinner at Prelogs, that was out of this world. The food is considered Modern European, and it’s quite a treat. Each dish is perfectly thought out and orchestrated. We sat outside and enjoyed the gorgeous atmosphere, music, drinks, and amazing food.
We walked around downtown after dinner, and decided to grab an espresso so we wouldn’t fall asleep from the food coma we put ourselves in. We enjoyed a leisurely walk downtown back to our hotel, and decided to take a late night swim. It’s always funny to us how people just enjoy sitting around at the pool, when we would prefer to swim laps and do cannon balls. So night swimming without others around is usually our cup of tea… people tend to look at us strangely when bust out a game of Marco Polo.

There’s nothing better than being a parent, but there’s also nothing better than quality one on one time with your spouse. If it’s been awhile since you and your significant other have been out just the two of you, it’s time to get a babysitter on the calendar! We always end up putting it off, but it’s so important to make it a priority. You will come back feeling so refreshed and so happy to jump back into your role as a mama!
Thanks so much for stopping by, and have an amazing Wednesday!
Lol, this would resonate with my friends on the throes of motherhood with a small child. Spontaneity becomes a luxury not often enjoyed. But as with most things in life, with one loss comes a gain. And I’m sure you’ll agree there’s nothing more rewarding than raising a little human being. 🙂 gorgeous foodie pictures by the way!
Nights away from the kiddos are tough sometimes, but I always feel so refreshed when I take the time for myself/ husband! Happy Anniversary! I am glad you two were able to celebrate together!

I’m glad the two of you got to be spontaneous 🙂
Sometimes I take it for granted that I can do whatever I want, whenever I want (not married and have no kids)! I hope when I get married and have kids I can also have a last minute getaway like this as well 🙂 it looks like you two enjoyed yourselves
The food looks great and it is so pretty. I would like to try that cocktail.
That’s wonderful that you and your hubby had a night away! My husband and I headed to NOLA for a quick weekend getaway when my daughter was 9 months old. It was amazing!

Ahh that’s amazing! I’d love a spontaneous night away but it gets a lot more difficult finding babysitters when you have two kids. We got an earlybird meal out for our anniversary last week haha we were home by 5:30! Happy anniversary to you! Looks like a beautiful place to celebrate.
