Toddler in a Two-Story
Happy Monday friends! I feel like the weekend really flew by, and I can’t believe I’m already sitting down to my desk and back at it. As you know, recently we moved into a house. Previously we lived in a small 2 bedroom apartment and now we’re in a large 2 story.
There were quite a few things we had to change about our routine to make life with a toddler easier with so much space, especially when the space was split up between two different levels. I thought I would share some tips that have made life easier with a toddler in a two-story for any of you who may be making the move into a larger space for baby. Feel free to leave some tips for me in the comments as well, I’m still a newbie!
- Invest in a great baby gate… preferably one with a swinging door that locks automatically, like this one from Munchkin. Baby gates are a necessity when you have two floors, so make sure you do some research and get one that works for your staircase!
- Get a diaper pail, like the Munchkin Step Diaper Pail. This thing is a total lifesaver, and it actually looks really cute in our nursery… I love the stainless steel accents. This genius invention totally saves us, because we don’t have to change the trash all of the time. Before we got the diaper pail we were carrying dirty diapers down every time we changed Noah’s diaper because we didn’t want to leave a stinky diaper in his room while he slept. The odor control is insanely amazing. I keep thinking it’s going to start smelling when I open the lid, and there’s no smell, LOL. It’s magic, I tell you!
- Have multiple changing stations. You will need a set of diapers, wipes, and creams in at least two areas of the house. We actually have a little diaper caddy set up in the living room, office, and nursery. This just makes life easier so you don’t have to walk far to do a diaper change.
I hope those tips were helpful! It’s been an adjustment, but it’s been so nice having more space for Noah to play in. I hope you have a great day, and as always thanks so much for stopping by!

Very true. It’s a great gift that will get so much use!
Great tips! Will def come in handy when I have a little one one day. 🙂
It sure will! 🙂 Thanks!
Yes to the diaper pail and the baby gates! Both are necessities for us with a two-story house. I also recommend investing in a baby monitor. It can be much harder to hear your child from a different level.
We lived in a two-story house when we had our first child and when we moved before we had our second child we didn’t even look at houses that had two stories! It’s definitely a challenge for sure.
We have stairs in our current house and a Good baby gate is definitely the best thing we have invested in!
Great tips. Our diaper pail has been a life saver!!
I wish they had cute diaper pails like that when my kids were babies!!
